Buyer's Guide
How to Compare Hangover Supplements in the UK
Most of this market is priced like a luxury and labelled like a miracle. Here is how to read past both, work out what you are actually paying per night, and spot the claims a UK brand is not allowed to make.
Search "hangover supplement" and you get a wall of bold promises, big ingredient counts and prices that quietly assume you will not do the maths. Very little of it helps you actually choose.
So here is a straight framework. Five things worth checking, one thing almost nobody tells you about labels, and an honest account of where AfterGLOW® sits on each.
Step 01Work out the cost per night, not per pack
This is where the market gets away with murder. A pack price tells you nothing until you divide it by the number of servings and check what a serving actually is. A pouch that looks cheap on the shelf can work out dearer per night than one that looks expensive.
The sum is simple. Pack price, divided by servings in the pack. Then read the directions, because some brands count a serving as one capsule and expect you to take four of them.
Ours, in full, with nothing hidden:
| Pouch | Capsules | Nights | Price | Per night |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Social | 6 | 3 | £5.99 | £2.00 |
| Rave | 14 | 7 | £9.99 | £1.43 |
| Festival Best Value | 32 | 16 | £16.99 | £1.06 |
Two capsules a night, every pouch, no small print. Run the same sum on anything else you are weighing up and compare like for like.
Step 02A bigger ingredient list is not a better one
Ingredient count is the easiest number to inflate and the least useful one to compare. A formula can list thirty things and still deliver most of them at a token amount, because splitting a fixed capsule across more inputs means each one gets less of it.
What matters is the amount of each ingredient per serving, which by law has to be printed on the label. Look for the NRV percentage next to the vitamins and minerals. That is the figure that tells you whether an ingredient is doing a job or making up the numbers.
AfterGLOW® runs 13 active ingredients: eight B vitamins, vitamin D, zinc, NAC, alpha lipoic acid and green tea extract. Every amount and every NRV is published on our Good Stuff page. Compare it against anything.
Step 03Check what the label is legally allowed to say
Here is the part that will save you money for the rest of your life, on our products and everybody else's.
In Great Britain, a food supplement can only make a health claim that appears on the GB register of authorised claims, and it has to use the authorised wording. There is no authorised claim for curing, preventing or treating a hangover. Not for us, not for anyone. A hangover is a medical condition, and claiming to treat one moves a product into medicine territory entirely.
If a supplement promises to cure your hangover, the brand has either not read the rules or decided to ignore them.
Either way, it tells you something about how carefully the rest of the operation is run.
We would love to write bolder copy. We are not allowed to, and neither is anybody else. So what you get from us instead is the authorised wording, used exactly as it appears on the register:
B Vitamins
Contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
Zinc
Contributes to normal cognitive function and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Vitamin D
Contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the maintenance of normal muscle function.
NAC, Alpha Lipoic Acid & Green Tea Extract
In the formula at meaningful doses. No authorised health claim exists for these in GB, so we make none.
That last card is the one nobody else prints. We think it is the most honest thing on our website.
Step 04Where it is made, and to what standard
AfterGLOW® is manufactured in the UK in a GMP-certified facility, using high quality, ethically sourced, GMO-free ingredients. It is vegetarian friendly, and allergen friendly for nut and gluten allergies.
Good Manufacturing Practice covers how a facility is run: traceability, batch records, contamination control, and testing at each stage rather than only at the end. Worth checking on anything you buy, because it determines what happens if a batch goes wrong and how fast anyone finds out.
Step 05How easy it is to actually take
The best formula in the world is useless in a pouch you left at home. Ours is two capsules with a glass of water before you go out, ideally after a meal, then drink plenty of water through the night. That is the entire routine. One small capsule design, no powders, no shakers.
Some products want a dose before drinking and another one after, or a timing window you are meant to hit at 2am. Be realistic about whether that is going to happen on a Saturday. Simple protocols get followed. Complicated ones do not.
More on timing across a full weekend in How To GLOW.
The short version
- Divide the pack price by servings, and check how many capsules a serving is
- Read the NRV percentages, not the ingredient count
- Treat any hangover cure claim as a warning sign, not a selling point
- Check the country of manufacture and the standard it is made to
- Pick a routine you will genuinely follow at 9pm on a Friday
Run AfterGLOW® through all five and it holds up. £1.06 a night on the Festival Pouch, 13 actives with every dose published, UK made in a GMP-certified facility, two capsules, and no claims we cannot stand behind.
Good questions
How many capsules do I take?
Two capsules with a glass of water before going out, ideally after a meal. Do not exceed the stated serving size of three capsules per day.
What is the cheapest way to buy AfterGLOW®?
The Festival Pouch works out at £1.06 a night across 16 nights, against £2.00 a night on the three night Social Pouch. Same formula in every pouch.
Why doesn't the site say it stops a hangover?
Because no food supplement sold in Great Britain is authorised to say that. Only health claims on the GB register may be used, and there is no authorised claim relating to hangovers. We stick to the approved wording.
Can I take it if I'm not drinking?
Yes. The B vitamins contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue whether your late night was a festival or a deadline.
Where is AfterGLOW® made?
In the UK, in a GMP-certified facility, using high quality, ethically sourced, GMO-free ingredients.
Are there any side effects?
Our ingredients are well tolerated at the recommended dosage. Some people sensitive to niacin (vitamin B3) may notice a temporary, harmless red flushing. B6 and vitamin D can occasionally cause mild digestive discomfort. Eat a meal beforehand and do not exceed the stated serving size. If you have a pre-existing condition or take medication, check with a healthcare professional first.
